Numbers talk - the Dodge Caravan has been in production for a long 23 years and is still running strong. As the first modern minivan, the Caravan is credited with opening up the entire minivan market. Since its introduction in 1984 the Chrysler Corporation has sold over 11 million minivans and has created more than 60 innovations that have transformed the minivan industry.
The Caravan has been able to offer a unique combination of functionality, value, safety and innovative features like no other. It has always been designed with the comfort and safety of the modern family in mind. Throughout its long run it has marked significant milestones with special editions such as the "10 Year Anniversary Edition" which featured badges and limited edition two-tone paint. The 20th Anniversary was celebrated with the 2004 Anniversary Edition SXT Caravan. If Chrysler and Dodge play its cards right then the Caravan will be celebrating another anniversary in the near future.
The newly redesigned 2008 model marks the fifth generation of the Dodge Caravan. The models set for release in the fall include the Dodge Grand Caravan and the Chrysler Town and Country. Reactions to the new design have been mixed as its boxier and simple lines share a striking resemblance to the Chevy Venture. However, minivan buyers are concerned less about style and more about what the vehicle can do for their family - and the 2008 Grand Caravan certainly delivers.
One of the best new features has to be the "Swivel 'n Go" chairs in the second row that can be rotated 180 degrees so they can face the rear bench. All the seats maintain their ability to be stowed below the van's floor for impeccable cargo capacity. Some of the other nifty features include LED reading lamps, two-tier center sliding console, heated second row seats, two large glove boxes (with one that chills drinks) and giant second row windows with retractable sun shades.
The Grand Caravan and Town and Country also have an exciting multimedia entertainment system with touch-screen navigation and the option of having a screen for each row of seats and the ability to play a different video on each screen. If this doesn't keep the kids quiet then nothing will! With a total of 35 new features the 2008 Grand Caravan is raising the bar in the minivan segment. It's no wonder that the Caravan continues to be the best selling minivan in the United States.
