Jeep Wrangler

Jeep tradition with a modern twist

by Greg Palmer

The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited does not stray far from its predecessors. Most new vehicles today have new, unconventional dimensions or either curvy, stylish bodies. But Jeep stayed true to their roots and created a rugged, off-road vehicle with the original angles and exposed hinges that are easily distinguished as Jeep.

Family-friendly

Even though it still looks like a Jeep, there is one difference that everyone will see on most models: four doors. You can choose from either the 2-door or the 4-door and each has three styles to pick from: the standard edition X, the upgraded Sahara or the fully loaded Rubicon. No matter what type of person you are, there is a Jeep to suit your needs.

Under the hood

To help you decide which model to choose from, Jeep kept things simple under the hood. The same engine was put in each model, which is somewhat of a disappointment since a lot of people want a choice of engines to get either more power or better fuel efficiency. Jeep split the middle with their 3.8 liter V6, giving you 202 horsepower and 237 ft-lb of torque while still offering 17 to 22 miles per gallon on gas. You do get to choose between a 6-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic transmission, but other than that it's all the same under the hood.

Feature-packed

After the engine, Jeep gives you plenty of features and upgrades to suit whatever your needs may be. You can get a premium 7-speaker sound system with a subwoofer and 368-watt amplifier to really pump up the volume. The back seat has a 60/40 split seat that gives you much more leg room. You can get tires up to 32 inches to ensure you can go wherever the road takes you. Also available is the all new Freedom Hard Top, a three-piece modular hardtop that enables the user to create several different roof configurations ranging from sunroof to convertible.

Even with all of the things that the 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is capable of doing, it is surprisingly more affordable than other vehicles in its class. With prices starting around $19,000 and topping out in the low $30,000s, it is affordable for the adrenaline-filled, off-road types or for someone who just wants an all-around enjoyable ride.
