2007 Cars
The hottest cars of 2007
With over 60 redesigned and new cars introduced in 2007, it would be impossible to choose just one as the best. After reviewing the hottest new cars, these are the vehicles (in no particular order) that came out on top:
- Honda Fit: Budget compact - Don't let its small appearance fool you. The Honda Fit has a roomy interior capable of comfortably hauling four passengers and plenty of cargo. This unique little hatchback divides up space between the front seats, back seats and cargo bay unlike any other hatchback by using tricks like putting the gas tank in the center of the car. The tiny 1.5-liter engine produces 109 horsepower, which allows the Fit to achieve 31 mpg in the city. This smart and sporty little hatchback has been attracting the attention of SUV and larger car owners ever since its introduction. Base price: $13,850.

- Nissan Versa: Budget compact / sedan - The Versa proves that fuel-saving cars can also be fun. The spacious interior will comfortably seat five adults for short trips despite its being only 14 inches longer than the Mini Cooper. In fact, the vast amount of interior space actually classifies the Versa as a mid-size car. With a 122-horsepower, 1.8-liter engine, the Versa is no hot rod, but it's more powerful than its competitors. It provides a terrific ride and handling and an amazing view, making it a great car for the daily commute. It also has a bunch of available goodies such as Bluetooth and keyless ignition. In this case, small equals safe as the Versa had a top performance in crash-test ratings. Base price: $12,450.
- Saturn Aura: Midsize / hybrid sedan - The Aura is a recent addition to the Saturn lineup, and it has been received well by the public. You can choose between two V6 engines, either the 3.5-liter four-speed automatic with 224 horsepower or the 3.6-liter six-speed automatic with manu-matic shifting, which delivers 255 horsepower. The Green Line hybrid edition is also available. The Aura is an amazing car to drive and it's also more comfortable and much quieter than your standard European luxury sedan - it's creating a good name for American automakers. The 2007 Aura was named the North American Car of the Year. Base price:$20,995
- Toyota Camry: Midsize / hybrid sedan - America's best-selling car was redesigned for 2007 to keep it on top. Choose from the sporty, top-of-the-line 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers an impressive 268 horsepower or the Camry Hybrid that provides 40 mpg city and 38 mpg highway. Costing an additional $4,000, the hybrid version is probably unnecessary since the standard Camry already has ample fuel economy. However, Toyota fans will appreciate the safety features of the Camry, including the seven standard airbags. The Camry was named Motor Trend's 2007 Car of the Year. Base price: $19,000.
- Volkswagen Eos: Sporty convertible - Introducing a brand new model to the Volkswagen lineup: the sporty Eos. This folding hardtop convertible offers decent trunk space when the top is stowed, more than the competing Pontiac G6. The Eos seats four, but the back seats are a little small for large adults and aren't the most comfortable. On cloudy or rainy days, the hardtop doubles as a massive sunroof - talk about versatility! It comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 200 horsepower, making it as fun to drive as it is to look at. A V6 option will be available in October 2007. Base price: $28,620.
- Lexus LS460L: Luxury sedan - Lexus redesigned its 2007 sedan to compete with BMW's 7-series and Mercedes-Benz's S-class. The new, larger interior is designed for absolute comfort, with a reclining right rear seat complete with cooling, heating and massage features. The rear passengers will also stay entertained with the flip-down monitor and 19-speaker sound system. And if this isn't luxurious enough, the Lexus even parallel-parks itself! The driver will be kept occupied with the powerful 4.6-liter V8 engine offering 380 horsepower and 367 pound-feet of torque. The fuel economy is good for a large engine, with 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. The Lexus LS460 was named the 2007 World Car of the Year. Base price: $61,000.
