Pickup Trucks

The toughest trucks on the road

by Shadi Houseman

"Eat My Dust" was a popular bumper sticker a few years back, especially on pick-up trucks. With three domestic-made pickups consistently in the top five selling vehicles nationwide, it is true that America loves trucks. Here are the top five pick-ups that really deliver:

FORD F-150 - Ford claims top bragging rights, with more than 32 million F-Series trucks sold around the world, and more F-Series pick-ups on the road with 250,000 miles than any other brand. The best-selling vehicle for 25 years and the best-selling truck for 30 consecutive years, the 2007 model continues this winning trend with a wide variety of body configurations, powertrains and trim levels, providing more choices for the consumer than ever.

GM's CHEVY SILVERADO - The nation's second top-selling vehicle, the 2007 Silverado builds on its reputation as a dependable, long-lasting full-size pick-up. It also boasts several models with three different cab styles, three different lengths for the bed, five different suspension packages and several powertrains.

DODGE RAM - The third top-selling truck in the country and fourth top-selling vehicle overall in 2006, the 2007 model emphasizes safety and efficiency. Available as a regular, quad or mega cab, with it's standard 4.7-liter V8, the 2007 model also offers full-wheel drive, FFV capability and can run on standard gas or E-85 ethanol.

TOYOTA TUNDRA - Power. That's the buzzword from Edmunds regarding the 2007 Tundra CrewMax, the biggest truck in Toyota history. It's more than 19 feet long with muscle-power exceeding Ford, Chevy, and Dodge at 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque from the 5.7-liter V8. Edmunds was so impressed, Tundra received higher ratings than the Silverado at the Detroit Auto Show.

FORD RANGER - The most fuel-efficient pickup in America offers 4x4 or 4x2 drivelines and three distinctive cab styles. With its 2.3-liter, 4-cylinder engine, the Ranger is at home both on and off-road.

When the dust settles and the words on that bumper sticker are clear, it's likely that you're looking at one of these five vehicles. They really deliver and can truly say "Eat My Dust!"
