Driving Safari Vacation

A family safari adventure in the comfort of your own car

African Lion Safari is a place where children and adults can learn about nature's most glorious animals while having a fun and entertaining adventure. The park provides visitors with an enjoyable and educational experience while promoting respect for the animals and the land in which they live.

The attractions

African Lion Safari has an assortment of attractions for an adventure-filled day. Take a cruise aboard the African Queen, which takes you for a tour around the Water Safari Lake where you'll see exotic birds and primates, such as spider monkeys and ring-tailed lemurs. If your family prefers to stay on land, then jump on the Nature Boy scenic railway, where you'll travel through natural forest and see unique wildlife.

Other daily attractions include the Jungle Playground, Misumu Bay wet play area, Parrot Paradise show, Pets' Corner petting zoo, and Birds of Prey flying demonstration. At the Elephant Roundup, one of the park's best-loved demonstrations, you'll experience the ritual of the daily elephant bath in the giant recreational lake. You can meet all of the Asian elephants - Jenny, Kitty, Maggie and baby Opal.

But the most popular attraction at African Lion Safari has to be the 9-kilometer drive-through wildlife game reserve. While driving through the park, your family will be greeted by 1000 fascinating birds and mammals that are waiting to meet you. Baboons, giraffes, lions and zebras are just some of the animals you'll see in their natural habitats. If you choose to drive your own vehicle through the reserve, just make sure to keep the windows up and fingers in.

Tips for protecting your car

Many families are worried that their vehicles will be damaged while touring the park. Here are some tips to protect you car at African Lion Safari:

  • Take an old vehicle - It is not uncommon for a bunch of playful monkeys to jump on your car. So don't drive a brand new vehicle through the park, because there's always a chance that it could get scratched.
  • Secure the exterior of the vehicle - Make sure that you don't have any loose exterior parts on your vehicle that the animals could be tempted to play with or potentially rip off.
  • Check your insurance - You may want to see what your insurance covers. Random ostrich or baboon damage may not be claimable.
  • Rent a vehicle - Drive a rental through the park instead of your own vehicle.
  • When in doubt, don't drive your car! Just park it in the shade and let an informative tour guide take your family through the park in an air-conditioned tour bus. This costs an additional fee but may save you a huge headache in the long run.
