ATVs (All-Terrain Vehicles) have been sold throughout North America for over 20 years, and their popularity is now growing in Europe. The multi-purpose nature of ATVs is no exaggeration - they're used for hunting, farming, transportation, snow clearing, racing, recreation, rescue work and military patrols.
ATVs are becoming more and more popular as a recreational activity, rather than a work vehicle. Among off-road enthusiasts, ATVs are customized and used for racing in motor sports. Racing models are built for performance, rather than utility. Others just use their ATVs to explore the many trails in the great outdoors - and when there isn't a trail, they'll make their own. ATVs are also becoming more popular with younger generations as they take up the sport of off-roading.
However, some concerns have been raised regarding the increased use of ATVs - these concerns not only address the safety of the riders, but also environmental preservation. Many riders do not stay on designated trails and are being criticized for excessive use in sensitive environmental areas, including sand dunes and wetlands. The lack of emission control for off-road vehicles is another problem. Also be advised that many states require some form of ATV insurance.
There are three top brands of ATVs produced in North America: Polaris, Arctic Cat and Bombardier. See what each company has to offer:
