- Size of cover - First and foremost you'll need to determine the size of the cover required for your bike. If you own a sport touring bike with saddle bags, trunk and tank bag, you may want to order a slightly larger size to make sure that it fits.
- Durability - Choose a motorcycle cover that is high-quality and durable. Remember, if the cost of the cover is relatively cheap, then the cover quality will most likely be cheap as well. Look for a cover that has a minimum two or five year warranty - they'll likely last that long without needing replacement, and if they don't, you're covered.
- Coverage - The best protection comes from motorcycle covers that entirely surround your bike, for 360 degrees of coverage. You'll feel safe knowing your ride is well protected, and the covers are easy to take on and off.
- Value - To get the best value for your money, consider buying a cover that includes both a standard base and top motorcycle cover. Together, they will cover the upper and lower half of the bike to provide 360 degrees of protection.
- Function - If your motorcycle is stored in the garage, a simple cover that keeps off the dust is probably all you need. However, if you don't have a garage or if your bike is kept outside every day, a heavy-duty cover is required. Consider looking for one that is waterproof to keep out the rain. Outdoor covers will protect your ride by keeping out the rain, dust and the harmful rays of the sun.
- Breathability - Purchasing a breathable cover is essential for long-term storage or when used in the sun. It allows condensation and heat to escape through the cover, preventing rust, mildew, mold, water damage and heat damage to your bike.
- Machine washable - This is not a necessity, but a cover that is machine washable is easy to clean and maintain. Some can also be put in the dryer.
