Edelbrock Carburetors

Performance you can count on

Carburetors are responsible for performing many jobs. They control the float level, atomize fuel into the proper proportions of air / fuel mixture and allow for smooth shifting between circuits. All of these jobs can affect the performance of the engine - it relies on the carburetor to perform extremely well under all conditions. A fine-tuned carburetor can handle the demands of everyday driving, and also deliver high street performance.

Edelbrock carburetors are produced by Magneti Marelli Powertrain USA Inc. Each carburetor has been specially designed and tuned by Edelbrock engineers to deliver the overall widest range of torque for unmatched street performance. Edelbrock manufactures two full lines of carburetors: the Thunder Series AVS and Performer Series. Both of these are now available in the new EnduraShine chrome-like finish - this is a first for carburetor technology. You can now get the lasting beauty of a chrome-like shine with the incomparable reliability of an Edelbrock carburetor.

In the Performer Series, the manual chokes are typically calibrated for performance, while electric chokes are calibrated for fuel economy. The Thunder Series carburetors are designed and calibrated to deliver optimal performance in a variety of applications - such as boosting performance, improving fuel economy, or providing off-road capabilities. The size and type of carburetor you'll need will depend on the size of your engine and your performance needs. There is an Edelbrock carburetor for any type of vehicle: economy, mid-sized, towing trucks and off-road vehicles.

Features of Edelbrock carburetors

There are two major characteristics of Edelbrock carburetors that make them amazing street performers. Firstly, they use metering rods to transition between circuits. These are not affected by engine backfires and the rods can easily be changed without removing the carburetor. Secondly, they have the one-of-a-kind ability to hold a tune, which means once they are tuned the performance and calibration remains consistent. Check out some of their other features:

  • The carburetors are ready to attach right out of the box.
  • They provide reliable street performance and smooth throttle response.
  • The float levels are set at factory standard and rarely need adjustments.
  • You can adjust floats, replace seats / needles and change jets, without removing the carburetor or draining fuel.
  • Built from a two-piece design, there are no gaskets below the fuel level, which provides a leak-free operation.

Adjusting the carburetor

Edelbrock carburetors are among the easiest to work on because they don't require contortions to make adjustments. Here are some tips on how to adjust your Edelbrock carburetor's mixture screws for a quick tune-up:

  • There are two large screws on the front of the carburetor below the name plate. They are both mixture screws. To get them in sync, they have to be opened the same amount.
  • Keep the car running while performing the task so you can hear the idle - just keep your fingers away from the cooling fan!
  • Using a flathead screwdriver, open the left screw. Then close the right screw all the way in.
  • Open the right screw up again as you count half-turns - open it to approximately five half turns.
  • Now close the left screw all the way, and reopen it to five half turns. Now the mixture screws are in balance.
  • If five half-turns isn't the right amount, adjust the screws in sync until the car is running properly. This should improve performance and fuel economy.
