Ask yourself this - would this source benefit from putting a spin (either positive or negative) on this news? In other words, would a company like General Motors benefit from making an announcement that makes GM look good? Of course they would! Obviously no car company is going to go out of their way to put out a press release that makes itself look bad. To get the unfavorable news, you need to go to an independent source.

They may not be the most cutting-edge technology out there, but newspapers provide some of the best reporting in the world. Car magazines and television programs can be good, too, but they are sometimes influenced by advertisers.
